Creating amazing experiences, promoting education and enriching lives of young people in Basingstoke and North Hampshire through the power of performing arts.
Proteus Theatre Company are working with the support and leadership of professional theatre practitioners to bring accessible theatre experiences for all young people through Proteus Youth Theatre (PYT).

From our home at Proteus Creation Space, we run weekly term-time skills workshops and specialist masterclasses for young people aged 7-11 years (Tuesday 6-8pm) 11-14 years (Monday 6.30-8.30pm) & 14-18 years (Thursday 6.45-8.45pm), to explore theatre and the arts. £70 per term for ten sessions.

Participants have the opportunity to be part of multiple and diverse performance projects each year. From ground-breaking devised pieces to imaginative, new adaptations of classic texts and stories, Taking up residence in traditional theatre spaces such as The Haymarket and Central Studio, to outdoor spaces like the Walled Garden.

Recent productions include: Innocent Creatures (as part of National Theatre Connections); A Christmas Carol (Creation Space); A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Walled Garden); Come with Me If You Want to Live (site-specific immersive theatre experience in collaboration with The Proteans) and Revolution (Central Studio, developed with Little Soldier Productions).

PYT is open to everyone from our youngest participants, taking their first steps into the world of theatre, to those 14+ looking for a new challenge.

Proteus Youth Theatre (PYT) is the only youth theatre in Basingstoke run by a national touring theatre company, offering the opportunity to work with artists from specialist fields such as puppetry, devising and circus

ACCCESSIBLE THEATRE EXPERIENCES FOR ALL
PYT is open to everyone and our work is ensemble-led. There is no audition process to join, we welcome young individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities and we actively seek to remove barriers where possible. We offer a 2 week, free trial session for potential new members to ensure that PYT is a good fit for them. Please contact us to discuss any specific needs.

BUT PYT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN PERFORMANCE!
Being part of a youth theatre is a fantastic way to help build confidence, social skills, teamwork, encourage creativity and make new friends.

Anyone is eligible to join our inclusive groups. Weekly rehearsals are run by professionals and take place at Proteus Creation Space, Council Road, Basingstoke RG21 3DH.
