The Haymarket is a cultural venue in the heart of Basingstoke, offering a variety of comedy, drama, live music and more. The building has a rich history, dating back to 1865 when it opened as the Corn Exchange for the town. It was later converted into a theatre in 1951, and has hosted many famous performers and shows over the years. In 2007, The Anvil Trust took over the lease of The Haymarket, and has since invested in improving the facilities and programming of the venue.
The Haymarket has a capacity of 400 seats, and boasts a modern sound and lighting system, a spacious foyer and bar area, and a studio space for smaller events. The venue also hosts many local theatre and community groups, providing a platform for emerging talent and diverse voices. The Haymarket is part of Anvil Arts, the largest performing arts organisation in Hampshire, which also runs The Anvil and The Forge in Basingstoke.
