One of the ways that Basingstoke celebrates its transport heritage is by hosting an annual Basingstoke Festival of Transport, organised by the Basingstoke Deane Rotary. The festival showcases a variety of vehicles from different eras and categories, such as classic and vintage cars, lorries, buses, fire engines, military trucks, motorcycles, scooters and prestige cars. The festival also features trade stalls, catering outlets and children’s entertainment.
The 2024 Basingstoke Festival of Transport will be held on Sunday, May 19th, at the War Memorial Park in Basingstoke. The event is free of charge for both exhibitors and visitors, with a small fee for parking at Old Common, London Road. The festival will open to the public at 11am and close at 4pm.
The festival attracts around 800 vehicles each year, filling the park with a colourful and diverse display of transport history.
The Basingstoke Festival of Transport was first held in 1981 and was organised by the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The event was originally held in the town centre, but it was moved to War Memorial Park in 1983. The festival has grown in popularity over the years and now attracts over 10,000 visitors each year.
